About Us
Hi - we are Jill and Maurice Brooker, and Erika Watson, and together we are Bayparque Kennels.
We all have different beginnings into the world of pedigree dogs, but they have all led us to where we are now.
The Bassets have been and integral part of our lives for many years now, and we have in recent years introduced the Fauves to our kennels.
At Bayparque we strive to product hounds that have awesome temperaments, and that are as close to the breed standard as possible. We have over the years imported a number of bloodlines to enhance our breeding programme.
With the Bassets we have been fortunate in being able to import some lovely dogs from the Beauchasseur and Longbay Kennels in South Australia, and also from the Topsfield Kennel in Vermont, USA.
The merging of these genes with our own bloodstock is producing quality dogs that are consistent winners in the show ring and are also giving great families lots of love and companionship in their homes.
Our puppies are raised in the house with us, and from about 5 weeks they have their own resident feline nanny called Martin. When the weaning process begins and mum is away from the puppies for longer periods, Martin seems to delight in moving in with them for a bit. We haven't been able to figure out what the draw is, but he just loves puppies.
Our first introduction to the Fauve was in Victoria Australia, where Erika was helping out at a show and got to handle some for the first time. When offered one, we jumped at the chance to bring the breed to New Zealand, and it now feels as though they have been with us forever. We are now working with the Arendt Kennel in Victoria to ensure the continuation of the this lovely breed here.
